A low energy refurbishment of a house incorporating the principles of the Passivhaus EnerPHit for retrofitting existing buildings. The property was finished with high levels of external wall insulation with render and has a robust airtightness strategy to reduce heat loss. The design also includes high quality triple glazed windows which have been carefully sized to avoid overheating and an MVHR ventilation system to create a clean ventilated environment. An air source heat pump has been used to remove the need for a gas supply and photovoltaic solar panels with battery storage help to reduce electricity demand and energy bills.

Sargeant Architects worked closely with the client and a Passivhaus consultant to deliver this complex low energy refurbishment.

The project also included improvements to the layout of the house to create a spacious family kitchen and an improved relationship to the rear garden.
