The scheme involves the significant extension and remodelling of a large private house at Greenbrook Avenue in Hadley Wood, Hertfordshire.
The existing house was essentially a bungalow with three poorly planned bedrooms in the roof space which did not meet the aspirations of the owners for a modern family home. Following discussions with the client it was agreed to demolish the existing pitched roof structure and extend the entire house upwards to provide a new first floor extension with new loft accommodation.
The extended house provides six bedrooms including five with en-suites. The master bedroom contains his and hers dressing rooms, a large bathroom en-suite and double aspect views with a walk-on balcony overlooking the rear garden. The second bedroom in the loft has been designed to be used as an annexe to the main house with a dressing room, en-suite and home office. The bedrooms take full advantage of the views to the attractive garden with glazed juliet balconies and a large rear dormer to the loft.
The entrance lobby has been improved with a new glazed porch extension entering into a double height space with a glazed balustrade to the stair and landing. The ground floor has also been remodelled to provide a large open-plan kitchen and dining area with a full depth glazed roof and a rear extension to contain a new family room.
Planning approval was granted in June 2011 and the project was completed in 2012.
Interior finishes and furnishings were designed by Jale Jahit.
